Today began our last day in Hawaii. Our last stop…………..Lahaina, Maui. We started off the morning with a light breakfast in our cabin. We were fortunate to see an absolutely beautiful sunrise from our deck.
Then it was time to meet up with the rest of our tour group. As we pulled away from the ship in one of the Tenders, ours decided to not cooperate. We ended up limping back to the ship and transferring to another Tender, but we were finally on our way.
We were signed up to visit the Maui Ocean Center. We believe it is fairly new. We used to visit Maui fairly often and we don’t remember this being here then. It’s was a pleasant 1/2 hour bus ride to the center and we loved it.
Colorful fish and an interesting looking octopus.
The highlight of the visit was sitting in side a big glass tube with the fishing swimming all around us. There were two giant (at least they looked giant) sting rays that swam right over our heads. It was quite a sight to see.
After the tour it was only noon so plenty of time for lunch, shopping and a Mai Tai. 1st up we headed across the street from the huge/very old Banyan tree to see if the Mexican restaurant was still tucked away in the back of the shopping area. Sure enough it was still there so that made it easy to decide what to have for lunch.
After lunch it was time to walk down Front Street and visit some of the art galleries. The reward for our walk was good old Kimo’s, right in the center of town. We’ve been coming here for well over 30 years and in all that time very little has changed. The Mail Tai’s were still delicious and worth the walk.
After that it was back to the Tender and a short boat ride back to the Star Princess.
All in all, it’s been a very successful trip so far. We love Maui so it was sad to leave but I’m sure we’ll be back in the future.
Now it’s time to get back to practicing our Ukulele’s and get ready for our big performance in a few days. We’re planning on a movie in the afternoon, a little napping and our 2nd formal night at dinner.
Hugs,
John and Robin
