Day 6–November 18, 2014

Today started fairly early as planned, with breakfast at this little place in Lihue.

We had a great meal while sitting on the upstairs patio, watching the world go by.  Then it was on the road to the north part of the island to visit the Kilauea Lighthouse.  What a gorgeous sight as we approached.

The location is also a bird sanctuary.  As we walked in we saw this little guy.

He probably hatched in this hole last spring and is just getting ready to venture out on his own.   All of these protected birds are so used to people they don’t even give you a second glance.  The geese walk slowly across the road knowing full well no one is allowed to bother them.

As we continued on the path, all of a sudden the lighthouse is right in front of us.

What a beautiful sight and very reminiscent of our trip to Maine.  As we walked around the views were breathtaking.

We found our way back to the car and headed back towards Wailua and a visit to Opaekaa Falls.

That was then followed by a great view of the Wailua River where the Fern Grotto is located.

After all this we decided it was Mai Tai time so we headed to Duke’s for a drink and some nacho's.

We had a perfect table looking out at the water.

Not a bad way to spend the afternoon.

Then it was back to the condo and a little afternoon rest, book and TV.  Life is good!

A daily blog post from Hawaii just wouldn’t be the same with out a sunset picture.  A little different tonight but once again gorgeous.

Until tomorrow and our last full day on Kauai…………..

Hugs,

John and Robin
