Today was our “Lighthouse” day. We started off this morning knowing we wanted to visit at least a few lighthouses but we had no idea how to find them. So off we headed to what turned out to be a wonderful bookstore in South Portland, Nonesuch Books and Cards. We spent quite a bit of time there (if you’ve ever seen us in a bookstore you’ll understand) but we found exactly what we were looking for, a map of Maine Lighthouses. So off we headed. I think we ended up seeing only five, but they were beautiful.
The last lighthouse was on a little island, very close to shore. Apparently they use a gondola to get to and from the lighthouse.
As it turned out we did have lobster while in Maine but we never did have a lobster roll. However, we did see the place that apparently had the best lobster roll in 2012. Check this out………
And here’s the sign to prove it.
I guess it doesn’t exactly say who voted but someone voted them the best.
I’m too embarrassed to tell you where we had our late lunch today, so you’ll just have to guess. But we did end up back at the local pub for a glass of wine and then back to the room to watch Dancing with the Stars (Robin’s guilty pleasure, John’s reading a book).
Tomorrow we are taking a leisurely drive to Quechee, Vermont. We have high hopes of seeing some really magnificent “color”. I’m hoping for better cell phone/wifi when we get there. Until tomorrow………..
Hugs,
John and Robin
