Day 1–October 3, 2015

 

We arrived at the pier shortly before 1:00 pm.  Although we had to stand in a few lines it’s funny how when you’re  standing in line to do something fun it really isn’t a big deal.  Everyone in line is in a good mood and happy to be there. 

After finding our cabin, and meeting our cabin attendant Dax, we headed out to check things out and find a bar for our first vacation cocktail.  We ended up in the Wheelhouse Bar. 

For those of you that have taken a cruise before this is a scene that happens at the beginning of every trip.

Here we are all decked out in our life preservers and at our muster station. 

Out cruise is being hosted by Delius Restaurant in Signal Hill.  We’ve been going to Delius for 20+ years, but this is the first time we’ve joined them for a wine tasting cruise.  As a way of kicking off the trip, Delius hosted a welcome aboard cocktail party in the Adagio Bar.  It was a chance to meet some of the other 40 or so travelers that are on board as part of the Delius Wine Tasting Cruise.  Open bar said to us, lets have our first French Martini of the trip.

We happily enjoyed our drinks while visiting with our hosts Louise and David, her mother Helen and her stepfather Richard.  Louise is the Executive Chef at Delius and Dave is, not only her husband but, also the business man behind the restaurant. 

Dave’s missing from this picture I think he was out mingling. 

On Princess Cruises they now offer “anytime seating” for meals.  So our dinner was in the Da Vinci Dining Room.

 

John had a steak (surprise, surprise) and Robin had Chicken (once again surprise, surprise).

John is the foodie in the family so here’s his dinner review: On a scale of 1 – 10, 1 being ordinary and 10 being outstanding, he gave our first nights dinner an 8. 

We had high hopes for a beautiful sunset.  It was OK but not spectacular.  The second picture was taken just a little bit later. 

The captain announced that unfortunately we are heading into seas that are a little rougher than usual.  It sounds like we’re going to be rocking and rolling throughout the night and Sunday morning.  I guess it’s time to put on the sea sick patch.

Tomorrow , Sunday and Day 2 is an at-sea day so who knows what we’ll find to do.
