Day 2 - Washington D.C. - Wednesday

The day started very early for us.  We had to leave the hotel by 8:30 in order to walk to the Metro and take it to the Capital.  We had tickets for a Capital Tour at 9:30.  It wouldn’t have been so bad but our body clocks hadn’t quite made it to the eastern time zone, so it was very early.  But we made it, in fact we were early so we were able to take an earlier tour which was a good thing, it was a much smaller group.

Here’s a picture of the back side of the Capital where you enter the fairly new visitor’s center.

Here we are right before we went in.  Look closely and you can see the capital dome in the background.

Right after you enter.

This is a fairly new statue of President Reagan.  Each state has two statues representing their state.  The state picks and pays for the statues.  Check out the picture below.

Notice the speckled layer? That is part of the Berlin Wall.  Very unique and appropriate don’t you think?

This is the front of the Capital, where the Presidential Inaugurations are held.  It is just gorgeous.

Notice the little dark spot on the roof on the left side.  I’m not sure how many guards are up there but they have big guns.  We also saw them walking the grounds.  It’s just a little intimidating but reassuring at the same time.

We had a filling lunch at Hard Rock Cafe so dinner tonight was a slice of cheese pizza.

Tomorrow’s weather forecast calls for even more rain but we refuse to let that slow us down.  Smithsonian Museum’s look out, here we come.

Hugs to all,

John and Robin
